Galaxy Surfactants Limited, Navi Mumbai is involved in manufacturing and supply of performance surfactants and specialty care products (cosmetic ingredients) which are exclusively consumed by personal care and home care industries. The Eco-Innovation suggested is “Galguards: The preservatives for Personal Care Products”. The bio-degradable product is safe for use on humans, made from the green and eco-efficient process using closed-loop chemistry. Galguard LipoG - One of the patented non-toxic anti-microbial was commercialised in the year 2020.

Rail Wheel Factory, Bangalore is a wheel manufacturing facility set-up under the Ministry of Railways. It manufactures wheels, axles and wheel-axle assemblies. The eco-friendly service applied for is “Water Conservation and creation/restoration of water bodies to achieve self-reliance in process water requirements to create an Eco-zone”. The factory has taken steps to reduce fresh water consumption and at the same time collect rain water and water conservation through water bodies near the factory.

Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited, Corporate Research & Development Centre, Greater Noida is a unit of leading public sector undertaking engaged in petroleum refining and marketing business. The eco-innovation product is “BHARAT GSR CAT: Converting Refinery waste to Valuable material and addressing Environmental issues”. It is necessary for refiners to reduce gasoline sulphur. R&D Centre developed an indigenous cost effective gasoline sulphur reduction catalyst additive named BHARAT GSR CAT for the Fluid Catalytic Cracker (FCC). Use of FCC waste based catalyst for the preparation of gasoline sulphur reduction was the innovative measure. The innovative product is 66% cheaper as compared to commercially available GSR catalyst price.

The Eco-Innovation suggested is “Oxyblock Barrier Coatings for Plastics Reduction & Recycling”. The unit has developed a barrier coating called Oxyblock which provides enhanced oxygen barrier properties in polyolefin and mono family structures replacing current non-recyclable structures comprising of substrates like polyester, foil and nylon. The Oxyblock enables the brand owners to design the material specification from difficult to recyclable packaging to easy to recyclable packaging.

Any use of surface water or sub-soil water depletes available water resource adversely. The company has adopted water conservation measures and recharge through water harvesting system.

Tata Motors Limited, Engineering Research Centre, Pune supports research in commercial vehicles, in the leading automobile manufacturer. The eco-innovation is Enhanced TCO School Bus – City Ride 4 SPCR BS4. Total cost of ownership was considered while redesigning the school bus depending on its duty cycle application. City running conditions of 40kmph speed limit allowed the bus weight to be reduced by 350 kgs and fuel efficiency to be improved by 15%.

JSW Cement Limited, Vijayanagar Works, Ballari is of 4.0 MTPA cement manufacturing capacity. The eco-innovation is Utilisation of slag which is a by-product from steel plant and manufacturing of product – Ground Granulated Blast Furnace Slag (GGBS), Portland Slag Cement (PSC) and Composite Cement (CC). The manufacture of slag cement not only lessens the burden of landfills but also reduces air emissions at steel plant through the granulation process. Use of slag cement in concrete reduces the environmental impact of concrete. Every ton of additional cementious material used in cement in concrete mixes saves about 1.4 tonne of raw materials.

Eco-Innovation: Reduction in NOx emission from Nitric Acid Plant

Dow Chemical International Private Limited, Mumbai is a leading material science company that drives innovation at the intersection of science and markets. It serves diverse sectors. The eco-innovation is ECOFASTTM Technology introduced in India in 2018. ECOFAST sustainable textile treatment is a viable solution to address several pressing sustainability challenges of textile industry. The solution significantly reduces water utilization by 12.5%, energy consumption by 50%, total dissolved solid by 40% and colour in waste water by 35%.

National Fertilizers Limited, Nangal Unit, Ropar is producing urea, nitric acid and ammonium nitrate. The eco-innovation is Reduction in NOx emission from Nitric Acid Plant. The company developed a process whereby additional air in varying quantity was injected in different absorption towers. The best results were found when concentration of alkali was 1.75 to 2.5%. Modifications in the existing system reduces the NOx content in the exhaust gases much below the desired value.

In the normal FIBC, polymers are used for ensuring properties like hardness. This makes the product very difficult for recycling. In Eco-safe type of FIBCs the company uses “texture-pro” a proprietary technology developed by the company and helps to create any type of texture using a very simple polymer making it convenient for the companies to recycle the product.

Praj is now geared up for the advance second generation cellulosic ethanol technology. Its demonstration plant of one million liter per annum production capacity is located in India. This integrated plant, including waste water system, is capable of processing a variety of agri-residues. Praj has also worked on evaluation of cellulosic feed-stock for second generation ethanol plant. Patent has been granted for this technology and is valid till 2028 in India.

Tata Steel Limited, Jharia Division, Dhanbad is a part of world’s second most geographically diversified steel producer. Its operations are fully integrated – from mining to manufacturing and marketing of finished products. Jharia division is a cost center of Tata Steel and a major source of its prime coking coal. The eco-innovation is Green barricading – Environment-friendly method of Underground Stowing Barricading. It is for the first time that use of timber has been completely avoided in back-filling process by replacing wooden material with their synthetic counterparts. The flexible wire rope is used with geo-textile mat. This avoids 17,280 tree felling per year.

Innovation: “MOCE” Module Cleaning Efficiency

Alok Masterbatches Private Limited, New Delhi is in the business of manufacturing polymer masterbatches and additive compounds. Masterbatches are solid or liquid additives, which are used for imparting either colour or any other mechanical/physical properties in plastics. Mulch films are highly technical products and the additives in it enhances the Photo-synthetically Available Radiation available to the crop, which drastically reduce the dependence on pesticides, agrochemicals and water. It has developed UvNox Mulch - an additive formulation which made mulch films 40% cheaper than any other solution available globally. Mulch film can save usage of water upto 40 to 60%; and reduce dependency on fertilizers upto 20-25%.

Divyesh Power Private Limited is a subsidiary of Greenko Group, is a 50 MW Solar Energy Project located in Kurnool District. The Solar Module Cleaning Efficiency is optimized on algorithm based data collection and analysis of various operating parameters throughout the day. The process allows 4.5% energy variation and then operates the cleaning system. The innovative approach has resulted in reducing fixed cleaning cycles from 21 per year to 16 per year. Correspondingly, 28% water consumption for cleaning is reduced. An overall energy generation improvement of 3% is observed due to timely cleaning of modules.

Eco-Innovation: Eco-Sense Eco-Innovation: Solar Powered Environment Friendly DEMUs and BVZI (Guard) Wagons.
Mahindra Research Valley, Chengalpattu is the research arm of Mahindra & Mahindra Limited. The company aimed to make Mahindra & Mahindra one of the fifty most admired global brands by 2021. The innovative product is Eco-Sense, a saviour of one lakh tonnes of Carbon Dioxide per year. Eco-Sense is a first of its kind technology and a path breaking innovation which encourages to drive the vehicle in an ecofriendly way. Primary motive of Eco-Sense is to promote fuel efficient driving and reduce emissions. Eco- Sense improves fuel economy up to 30% depending on the operating scenario. Eco-Sense evaluates the driving style by monitoring key parameters like speed, gear selection, acceleration, idling, aggressive braking and clutch oversight and presents an eco-score to the user. Indian Railways Organisation for Alternative Fuels (IROAF) is a unit of Indian Railways. The brake-vans modified by IROAF with the assistance of Northern Railway Workshop, Amritsar are provided with a fan, a light and mobile charging facility which is supported by solar power generation at the roof top. IROAF has initiated solar photovoltaic system on roof top of trailer coaches of Diesel Electric Multiple Units (DEMUs). The solar energy generation system is supported with a battery bank to power the passenger facilities uninterrupted even during non-sunny period. The unit also has zero discharge bio-toilet system having bacterial decay of solid waste.

Reliance Industries Limited is an Indian conglomerate. Reliance Catalytic Hydrothermal Liquefaction (RCat HTL), a thermo-chemical process developed by RIL, converts wet organic biomass and bio waste into energy and recovers fertilizer-rich water and bio-char. This environmentally sustainable process overcomes the limitations of the existing technologies and offers a green solution to the hazard of wet waste and agro-residue disposal.

JK Cement is one of India's leading cement and building product manufacturer. The Eco-Innovation is utilization of alternative fuel and raw materials in production of cement. Various types of alternate fuels and raw materials are used in place of fossil fuels and co-processed with hazardous wastes. The plant is also able to use available hazardous waste. This innovation has resulted in reducing coal consumption and emissions and cost savings of over Rs. 9 crores in 2016-17. Indian Railways Organisation for Alternative Fuels (IROAF) is a specialized unit of Railways. The Eco-Innovation is substitution of conventional fossil fuels with natural gas - CNG/LNG; bio-diesel; solar energy; energy from waste and energy from many other green projects. The organization has provided a “Micro-processor controlled Dual Fuel System running with diesel as the main fuel and CNG as the eco-friendly substitution fuel in a 1400 HP Diesel Engine of a Diesel Power Car of Diesel Electrical Multiple unit train set”. The emissions are reduced, of NO by 16%, CO by 6% and Particulate Matter by 18%, x 2 with 20% substitution by CNG over duty cycle. 8% economy in cost of diesel is achieved with this innovation.

Signode India Limited is an industrial bulk packaging unit. 'Roll Cradle' is a unique solution that makes use of recycled plastic material in place of wood. It is a direct replacement for wood. This innovation makes possible to get exact dimensional tolerances which keep the product safe during transit. The material provides consistent strength whereas the strength of wood varies from lot-to-lot. It gives better cushioning and corrosion resistance when compared to wood. Gujarat Industries Power Company Limited, incorporated in 1985 is a power generating company. The Eco-Innovation is distributed solar power interfaced with agriculture which is a unique scientific concept of producing green energy with dual use of precious resources like land and water, re-use of water consumed in cleaning of PV modules for irrigation of crops and minimizing energy losses in transmission. Special PV module structures are designed based on shadow analysis of prototype structure computer economization to facilitate easy movement of tractor under solar panels. The main purpose of the economization project is to promote agriculture yield below solar panels and between two rows of panels. Design of single water pumping and distribution network for panel cleaning and drip irrigation reduced operational cost.

Reliance Industries Limited is the world's fourth largest polyester staple fiber manufacturer. The Eco-Innovation is production of Recron GreenGold, the brand name of the eco sensitive polyester fiber for the fashion industry. It is manufactured from post-consumer PET bottles, using renewable sources and efficient manufacturing practices. Recron GreenGold is available in uncolored and three coloured forms. It has the lowest carbon footprint globally among all fibers as established by third party audit. Bio-fuels are used instead of fossil fuels for generating steam. Since fibers are already coloured, there is no need for dyeing.

This has resulted in overall carbon dioxide emission reduction by 22%. Godrej & Boyce Manufacturing Company Ltd, Appliances Division has been a leading MFCG company. The development of R 290 based AC is a major breakthrough. R 290 is a natural refrigerant and has zero ozone depleting particles and near zero global warming potential of 3. The path breaking design of Eon Green Balance Split AC has energy efficiency 12% higher than a standard five star AC. The energy rating for Godrej AC Model GSC12 FG8 MOG is 3.95.

Kaira District Cooperative Milk Producers’ Union Ltd, Anand is well known for milk products under the brand name of Amul. The innovation is BIO-CNG generation and bottling gas from dairy effluent. As a part of Amul Green Initiative, Amul decided to utilize the biogas and adopted medium pressure swing absorption technology (MPSA) to convert biogas into – CNG. MPSA technology helps in purifying bio-CNG with the methane content level of 93%. It is then compressed and filled into cylinders for use. This gas is being used as a replacement of CNG applications. Essel Infra Project Ltd, Mumbai, is the part of Essel Group, involved in projects of urban infrastructure development being built primarily under Public Private Partnership. The innovation is the disposal of municipal solid waste and generation of electricity through waste to energy plant at Jabalpur. The plant has been specially designed for low calorific value municipal solid waste, up to 1100 kilo calories per kilogram of gross calorific value. No segregation/pre-treatment is required. The plant is zero discharge and the ash residue is converted into value added products like bricks and pavement blocks.

Cairn India Limited, Mangala Well Pad No.18, Barmer is a unit of the private sector gas exploration and production company. The eco-innovation is use of Concentrated Solar Thermal (CST) technology for evaporation of waste water. Solar direct normal irradiance reflected by parabolic dishes on receiver plates concentrates radiations that heat plates and increase the temperature so that when water comes in contact with hot plates, it gets evaporated. Water from waste water well is transferred to a tank from where it falls on the hot plate and evaporates on contact. Tetra Pak India Pvt Ltd, Gurgaon is a leader in providing innovative packaging and processing solutions to the food industry. A tetra pak carton is composed of 74% paper board, 20% poly ethylene and 5% aluminum. The eco-innovation is that the company has established sustainable recycling of post-consumer tetra pack cartons by following steps: sensitizing consumer on their role in waste management for long term benefits; ramping up collections by partnering with waste pickers; and establishing recycling infrastructure. By this process 30% of used cartons in India have been recycled enabling the high quality paper fibre to be used for new paper board products.

This makes wind power projects viable even in low wind sites. Accessing higher wind speeds at higher altitudes increases the turbine output. At a height of 120 metres the S97 120m (2.1 MW) turbine is the world’s tallest hybrid steel tower having both lattice and tubular structures. It has shown a higher plant load factor of 35%; 15% higher energy generation compared to conventional designs.

Talwandi Sabo Power Limited, was incorporated by Punjab State Electricity Board and then transferred to Sterlite Energy Ltd. The plant is the greenest thermal power plant in North India because of environment friendly technology used and a zero discharge, 275 meter tall flue-stack, high slurry concentrate disposal system, ESP and back filter to limit particulate emissions beyond statutory limit, state-of-the-art dust extraction and suppression system and 700 acres of green belt. They have also engaged ten thousand stakeholders from nearby villages to ensure plantation and its survival. It has entered Guinness Book of World Record by planting 2,08,741 saplings in a record time of one hour on October 30, 2015 by involving 5, 928 stakeholders. D P World Nahava Sheva is the country’s first private container terminal set up in 1997. The eco innovation is replacement of auxiliary generators of Rubber Tyred Gantry Container Crane (RTG) by inverters. RTG is a professional container loading and unloading equipment used in container yards of container depot. To limit the consumption of main engine where there is no work, an auxiliary engine is used in RTG, the purpose being to keep the supply to the operator’s cabin for the communication and emergency devices. The organization has replaced auxiliary engine by inverter to supply power. This has resulted in saving carbon emissions to the tune of 374 tonnes per year because of avoidance of use of fossil fuel. Defense Services Staff College, conducts the prestigious staff course in India, and is the centre of Excellence for the armed forces. The training team of each wing spends nearly 40% of the time on preparing reading/training materials and exercises.
